Euell GOING,going ....
and very nearly gone. On Friday the SLP reported that Birmingham were in advanced talks with The Addicks over the transfer of the want-away striker/midfielder/sulker. The official site then confirmed these talks together with the news that Jason had requested 90 minutes action at the weekend and had elected to play for the reserves at Sutton Utd. It transpires however that Jason failed to appear for this game fuelling speculation that a deal had been done. Hopefully he'll be gone in the next few days and we will be a couple of million better off. His Charlton career started slowely, gained momentum in the next two season's and then fizzled out like a damp firework on a wet November night. I hope he'll be happy in the Midlands but he'll still be unable to trap a bag of wet cement and within a couple of months he'll be whinging to Brucie that he's lost his place to either Dunn/Izzet or Heskey/Pandiani, depending as to whether he's a striker or midfielder or neither.
Talking of missing players, Gonzalo Sorondo was also supposed to play at Sutton Utd but didn't. Being suspended for the first three games of the season it makes sense for him to get a full ninety minutes for the reserves but not to play in either game seems strange. Let's hope he isn't injured.
Finally, Graham Stuart today announced his retirement from football. I'm sure I'm speaking for all Charlton fans when I say thankyou for your contribution to Charlton and the memories you have given us and also good luck for the future whether that be in football or speedway.
